COVER STORY
It’s a credit to Horizon Builders’ experience
that they’re able to keep the project
on schedule in these uncertain times. The
value of their contract is in the neighbourhood
of $24 million and 80 per cent of
that includes CARM members and subtrades
local to the City of Brandon and
surrounding area.
“That’s over $20 million moving
around in our community,” said Smith.
“Of course there’s a lot of stuff in that
that’s being outsourced, but the first point
of spending is coming from Koch to us
and then right to trades from Brandon. Of
the 63 workers on site right now, I would
guess 55 of them are from Brandon and
the Brandon area.” n
Added to that tall order is the
requirement for blast-rated
construction – built to withstand
an explosion were something to
happen inside the plant.
14-gauge steel is being used for the metal studs to accommodate the blast-rated
construction requirement for this project
