Manitoba Apprenticeship Proposed Amendments

 

PROPOSED REGULATORY AMENDMENTS TO THE

APPRENTICESHIP AND CERTIFICATION SYSTEM

The Manitoba government is considering regulatory changes to the apprenticeship and certification system. Members from industry and the public have an opportunity to review the proposed regulatory amendments and provide feedback prior to implementation.

 

Amendments under consideration include:
1. Transition the apprentice to journeyperson ratio from 2:1 to 1:1.
2. Transition the 46 voluntary trade regulations to Board By-laws.
3. Designate Powerline Technician as new Red Seal trades with certification through trades qualification only (no apprenticeship program).
4. Dedesignate the trades of CNC Machinist, Electric Motor Systems Technician, Floorcovering Installer, Rig Technician and Steel Fabricator.
5. Maintain certification for Concrete Finisher, Construction Craft Worker, Glazier, Pre-Engineered Building Erector, and Recreation Vehicle Service
Technician, but discontinue the apprenticeship programs.
