Newcomer in Name Only
Brandon’s MNK Mechanical may be new on the
scene, but brings plenty of experience
By Jim Timlick
Having the right tools for the job
is critical to the success of any
company involved in the construction
industry.
You won’t get any argument on that
count from Gord Kaluzniak, HVAC manager
for Brandon-based MNK Mechanical.
Although, as important as possessing the
right tools may be, Kaluzniak is convinced
a company can’t have any success without
having the right people in place. It’s a
philosophy that shapes pretty much every
decision the company makes.
“I think there’s some people who have a
concept that the more computers you have
and the more fancy programs you have, the
better the company you are going to be,”
he said.
“But we know you’ve got to base it
on having good people: knowledgeable
people, people that come to work for a
day’s pay for a day’s work. We’re trying to
recruit people we know that can help us. I
think that may be the hardest thing to do
in any business today.”
MNK Mechanical is something of a
newcomer on the Westman construction
scene. It was founded a little over a
year ago by owner Mark Bailey, who also
owns Brandon-based homebuilder R & M
Homes. Bailey previously owned All Fired
Up, a residential plumbing and HVAC business,
which he was looking to grow. It was
reimagined as MNK Mechanical in early
2020, to reflect the company’s increasing
focus on larger commercial projects.
Although MNK Mechanical is still a
relatively new entity, it has a wealth of experience
in the HVAC business. Kaluzniak
has been working in residential and commercial
ventilation for more than 40
years, while plumbing and hydronic heat
Boilers at Goose Lake High School in Roblin, Man.
