EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR’S MESSAGE
Resilience in
Rural Manitoba
By Shawn Wood, CD, Executive Director, CARM
This year has changed the way
we operate, socialize and work.
There have been many changes
throughout 2020, including my
transition from over 24 years of service
in the Canadian Armed Forces to the
position of executive director of CARM. I
am grateful to be part of the team and am
committed to the advancement of CARM
throughout rural Manitoba, and ensuring
the needs of the construction industry
are heard.
Joining the team in July meant I
missed the first half of the year, and
the implemented changes to navigate
the COVID-19 restrictions and the
initial impact it had on the association.
Despite that, I have seen the resilience
this association possesses. In my first
few months of employment I have had
the opportunity to dive into the daily
operations of CARM. I am pleased
to share initial observations that have
left me impressed. These include: the
involvement of the board of directors,
the guidance and assistance from the
executive committee and the motivation,
knowledge and dedication of the office
staff. The association seems to be heading
in a sustainable direction and I believe that
I can participate actively in the successful
future of CARM.
We were able to witness the positivity
of our membership and partners as
we navigated through the COVID-19
pandemic, demonstrated by the great
turnout at the 38th Annual CARM Golf
Tournament held in August. Even with the
restrictions and last-minute adjustments to
the format, it was a fantastic day. Thank you
