Changes in Rural
Construction
By Rebecca Henderson
For Jared Jacobson, the CEO of the Jacobson & Greiner
Group, the evolution of Manitoba’s rural construction industry
has three pillars: safety, diversity and innovation.
"Safety, diversity and innovation have enhanced the
industry and made it more complex,” said Jacobson. “It challenges
businesses to think outside the box and continually find
ways to improve and expand. It really forces companies to plan, be
organized, be more efficient and lean so that they can be competitive.
I think the easiest way to explain it is the word ‘simple’ is gone
from construction.”
As a third-generation leader of the Jacobson & Greiner Group,
Jacobson has witnessed how efficiency and hard work have helped
the company transform from a residential construction builder to a
vertically integrated construction group.
“My grandfather and father built a large business with a solid
foundation,” he said. “I was fortunate enough to be able to split out
a couple of those divisions that were of real interest to me when
I purchased the construction side of Jacobson and Greiner Ltd.
One of the key attributes to success was having the ability to complete
the acquisition of the first two divisions at such a young age.
That allowed me time to restructure and grow those divisions, build
equity and in turn, build confidence to make other acquisitions.”
