A New Kind of
Leadership
In February, Carla Milne and Natasha Farren were
elected president and vice-president of CARM. It’s
the first time in the association’s 107-year history
that these positions have been held by women.

Carla Milne and Natasha Farren made history at
CARM’s annual general meeting in February.
Members of the association voted in Milne as
president and Farren as vice-president, making
them the first women in CARM’s 107-year history to hold those
positions and head up the association’s executive committee.
Milne came to know the construction business as a business
advisor for MNP LLP. She’s now a partner in the firm and
works out of MNP’s Brandon office. Milne joined the CARM
general board of directors in 2012 and was elected to CARM’s
executive committee in 2016.
Farren was born in Northern Ireland and has worked in the
construction industry since she was a teenager. She moved to
Canada in 2009, and now works at the Brandon office of Flynn
Group of Companies as the company’s national account manager.
Farren joined CARM in 2018 as a director-at-large and
was elected to CARM’s executive committee in 2019.
Building Rural Manitoba asked Milne and Farren to share
their stories and their thoughts on the changing roles of women
in the construction industry and the kind of leadership they
hope to bring to CARM. Here’s what they had to say.
