Meet Brett Konkin
Q: What’s your background in construction?
A: Construction is in my blood. I grew up helping out with the
family construction business that was founded by my grandfather
60 years ago. I have childhood memories of travelling across
Western Canada with my family and my father, Greg Penner, to
work on projects.
While working at the family business, I pursued an education
in construction and became a journeyman carpenter and a Gold
Seal superintendent with the Canadian Construction Association.
Some project highlights from my career as a superintendent
include working on the City of Brandon South End Lift Station,
the Keystone Centre Luxury Suites and Concourse Upgrade, the
Riverdale Community Centre, the Sunrise Credit Union Brandon
and the Victoria Gateway Medical Building.
As part of a family succession plan, I started D.G. Konkin
Construction in 2015. It’s been an exciting five years building a
new business. I’m looking forward to what the future has in store
for our team.
Q: When and why you did you join CARM?
A: I joined in 2015 to continue building relationships and networking
with other businesses in the industry.
Q: Why did you want to serve on the board of directors?
A: I wanted to contribute to the growth of construction in
our community.
Q: What are you looking forward to as a
member of CARM’s board of directors?
A: I am looking forward to working with other board members to
continue building the construction industry in rural Manitoba.
Q: What are your future plans and hopes for CARM?
A: I would like to see our industry grow and prosper.
Meet Devin Reinhardt
Q: What’s your background in construction?
A: I earned a two-year engineering diploma from Saskatchewan
Polytechnic. I am working on finishing my Bachelor of Technology
degree from the Memorial University of Newfoundland in St.
John’s. I am taking the courses online.
I currently work as a project manager for Crane Steel Structures
Ltd (General Contractor). I did a similar job for four years at
Behlen Industries LP.
Some of my project-management career highlights so far include
an 18-month project that involved the completion of the trades
building for Swan Valley School Division, an 18-month project
for Precision Toyota and a 10-month project for Killarney Turtle
Mountain Fire Hall which we completed in January 2020.
Q: When and why you initially join CARM?
A: I initially joined CARM in February of 2020. Crane Steel has a
long history of CARM board involvement, so it seemed like a good
fit for me.
Q: Why did you want to serve on the board of directors?
A: It gives me a chance to offer a younger voice to the group and
gain experience as I collaborate with CARM members I have
worked with in the past in a new context. It will be satisfying to
advocate for members.
Q: What are you looking forward to as a
member of CARM’s board of directors?
A: I am looking forward to the opportunity to network with others
and collaborate on common concerns and current issues in the
construction industry – not to mention surrounding myself with
positive and successful people. The experience will only help me
grow as a professional and a person.
Q: What are your future plans and hopes for CARM?
A: I would like to see the members of CARM continue to thrive.
A more specific goal is to act as a champion so all members have
access to estimating software tools which will ease and simplify the
process of project estimates. n
